The Frankfurt Fashion Week has opened and from January 17th to 21st the city will be all about fashion for the second time - albeit on a smaller scale than hoped.

The premiere last summer had to be more reserved due to the corona pandemic: events were canceled, postponed or took place online.

The situation is similar this year.

The major trade fairs Premium, Value, The Ground, Seek and Neonyt have been postponed again.

Nevertheless, there are some highlights this year, both digital and analogue: exhibitions, panel discussions, fashion shows.

They are united by the question of how the fashion industry can be made more sustainable.

Runway B level

The B level of Frankfurt's Hauptwache will become a "walk-in fashion magazine".

The works of various fashion photographers have been presented there on a total of 35 pillars since January 10th.

For a month, the 71 works by 25 photographers are freely accessible at all times.

Helmut Fricke FASHION

Since the 1990s, Helmut Fricke has captured the most important fashion shows in pictures for the FAZ.

From January 17 to February 17, his creations can be seen at 13 locations in the city – a collection of a total of 60 works from the Frankfurt photographer's photo archive.

Neonyte installation

Even though the originally planned event has been postponed again, on Tuesday from 5.30 p.m. there will be an insight into curated looks from sustainable fashion brands.

A limited number of invited guests can view the installation with the key themes Circularity, Social, Water and Air on site at Danzig am Platz.

The event will also be broadcast online.

Transforming Frankfurt Fashion

Under the title "Transforming Frankfurt Fashion - The Frankfurt Fashion & Design Forum", local fashion and design labels will be the focus from January 17th to 20th.

The exhibition presents the creations of fashion designers from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area in the "Space" of the e-car brand Polestar in the city center.

In addition, there are shop window talks every day at 2 p.m. where the designers have their say.

They can be followed both in the live stream and on site.

fashion shows

Although there are no large audiences and full rows of seats at this year's runway shows, there are still a few brands that are presenting their new collections on the catwalk.

For example, the new creations of the luxury brand Baldessarini can be followed in the live stream on January 18 at 7 p.m.

The collective fashion show "Continuous Love" by Susumu Ai & other members of the Fashion Council Germany is about the appreciation of fashion.

The show will only take place on site for individually invited guests and will also be broadcast live at 6.30 p.m.

Fashion.Power.People

A digital film evening followed by an expert discussion: "Mode.Macht.Menschen", a documentary about the clothing industry in Cambodia, will be shown.

On January 20 at 6:30 p.m., anyone can participate online with a free registration.

Individual scenes are explained and suggested how each individual can contribute to a fairer fashion world.

With more hygiene and safety regulations and a smaller audience, the Frankfurt Fashion Week still wants to give an intensive insight into the future of sustainable fashion.

Even if the event could not take place in full again - the next date in summer 2022 has already been set.
