We hear the term “public interest” often, and the public interest can be defined as a set of properties or institutions that members of society consider necessary to satisfy their common interests, such as transportation, cultural institutions, police, security, as well as the judiciary, the electoral system, education, clean air, water and food. Safe and available, including some concepts such as basic rights and freedoms.

It is noted that there is a strong link between the progress of nations and the interest of the individual in the public good, and even his preference for it over the private good, i.e. “personal interest.”

If we take a practical example from Japan, which we always admire, and some like to call it “Planet Japan”, we will find that the individual there if his personal interest conflicts with the public good, he will choose the public good without hesitation, and the same thing in South Korea, and therefore we We view these countries as another planet and we hope to be like them in what benefits us at the individual level, but without taking the whole “package” into consideration. , so people are sincere in their work, and are dedicated to serving the institution in which they work as well as the country as a whole, so you do not find anyone “married” from work early, and they do not ask their colleagues to sign for attendance on their behalf, and they do not lie to their superiors at work, as well as the bosses at work Diligently and diligently and do not steal the effort of their subordinates, in short, individualism and personal interest do not prevail over dealings.

I have seen for myself huge projects in Scotland that members of the community have supported, donated and worked on free of charge until these institutions have succeeded, and although those who have contributed may not benefit directly from them, many universities have been set up by individuals for the common good, and at the same time, individuals Society preserves this inheritance, and does not accept that they profit from it, or that a member of society takes something that is not his right, or falls short in his work, as his reward comes from state funds and taxpayers, and therefore the members of society condemn any behavior that contradicts these values, and I do not say They are ideal societies, and they have their problems and challenges, but it is certain that the vast majority will take the public good into consideration even if it conflicts with personal interest.

As for societies in which the voice of personal interest is high, most individuals try to maximize their gains and benefit from the job position, and if he is an employer, he will focus on maximizing profits, even if he sells fraudulent goods or damages the environment or public property, such as those factories that dispose of sewage in Change its places and pollute the water. Even in universities, there are some who profit from an academic job at the expense of the university’s reputation and credibility, and negligence in anything in general is one of the forms of harming the public interest.

I hope that effective content on this subject will be taught, especially in the early years of study, and community awareness about this issue will be raised.

• In cultures where the voice of the common good prevails over personal interest, we find that everyone joins hands and does everything they have for the sake of everyone.
