The truth about Kuksel Baba's visit to Egypt

On Arab pages and accounts on Facebook, posts have appeared claiming that Koksel Baba, the famous Turkish activist on social media and the face attached to many satirical publications, will visit Egypt.

But this claim, spread between seriousness and joking, is not true.

Posts circulating in the past few days have attached a picture of Coxel Baba dragging what appears to be a suitcase.

The accompanying comments stated that this activist on the social networking sites, followed by hundreds of thousands of people, is heading to Egypt.

Other publications added, "Egypt is on a date with one of the eminent personalities," which suggests the comic nature of these publications.

Coxel Baba is one of the very well-known faces on the Arabic language communication sites. Pictures of him often appear with facial features that express surprise or anger, accompanied by comic posts.

Coxell broadcasts comic clips on YouTube, where he is followed by more than 1.4 million users, while more than two million and 800 thousand follow him on Facebook and almost the same on Instagram.

Coxell identifies himself as born in 1975, and that he "quit boxing in 2010" before becoming a well-known activist on social media.

But the news of his visit to Egypt is not true.

The source of this claim is a Twitter account under the name of Koksel Baba, but it is not his official verified account on Twitter.

And the picture that this account used, saying that it showed Coxel heading to Egypt, had previously been published by Coxel himself on his verified account on the Instagram website a few months ago, attached to a post in which he said that he was heading to Istanbul, and he did not mention Egypt.

In addition to the above, Koxel denied to Agence France-Presse what was stated in the misleading publications that he was going to Egypt.
