The sharp increase in corona numbers in Berlin is now also affecting local transport.

The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are reducing their bus services by a good three percent from Wednesday (January 19) on weekdays, as the BVG announced on Friday.

The background is an increasing number of sick and quarantine reports.

According to its own statements, the company will probably further adjust its offer on January 24th.

"Our goal is to always get a stable offer for our passengers on the roads and on the rails, even if adjustments are unfortunately necessary," explained Board Member Rolf Erfurt.

All sections and stops in the bus network would continue to be served.

However, clocks are thinned out, for example on sections where several lines run parallel.

The BVG assured that the Metrobus lines would run at least every 10 minutes.

In addition, the respective passenger demand is taken into account in the planning.

“The development of the pandemic does not stop at the transport companies,” it said in the adjusted timetable.

The tram and subway are initially not affected by cuts.

According to a spokeswoman, the S-Bahn Berlin continues to run the full program.

In a special session on Friday, the Federal Council cleared the way for new rules for quarantine and isolation.

A week ago, the federal and state governments agreed to adapt the regulations in connection with the new omicron variant of the corona virus.

This is to prevent clinics, important infrastructure such as the fire brigade, garbage disposal and transport companies and companies in general from continuing to operate.
