It was already a blow for Gabon,

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina had to forfeit

the Panthers' first match

against the Comoros

last Monday after testing positive for Covid-19 on their arrival in Cameroon.

After being tested again, this time negative, the two players were supposed to return to the group to play their team's second match against Ghana this Friday evening, January 14.

CAF does not want to take risks

Their return was particularly expected but Aubameyang and Lemina are finally forfeited again to face Ghana.

In a tweet, the Gabonese Football Federation claims that the CAF medical committee did not authorize the two players to take part in the meeting because medical examinations have revealed heart damage in both players.

Another Gabonese player, Axel Meyé, is also in the same situation.

🚨

According to the CAF Medical Committee, players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina barely out of the Covid cannot take part in this match.

The examinations would show cardiac lesions.

On

Facebook, FĂ©gafoot

explains that "

CAF did not want to take any risks

", but it questions the late communication of these medical results, recalling that "

any player who tested negative after Covid-19 must do a general assessment. before resuming competition

 .

We do not know for the moment more about the duration of unavailability of Gabonese players.

This new absence of Aubameyang and Lemina against Ghana is in any case an unexpected event that Gabon would have done well without.
