Ming Cha | "New crown farce"?

Chinese kindergarten children wear protective clothing to school?

Quick Facts

The news on the Internet that "China makes children wear protective clothing" to go to school is untrue. The relevant video comes from Douyin user @ruyi, which allegedly shows pictures of kindergarten children participating in sports performances.

The white jumpsuit the children wore in the video is an inflatable spacesuit, which can be seen on Taobao and other shopping platforms, and has been reported by the media many times.

The "protective clothing" that Twitter users refer to is more like a misunderstanding or malicious misinterpretation of the appearance of clothing.

A video recently circulated on Twitter saying that a new crown farce took place in China, and in the name of "for your own health", kindergarten children were put on a coat that looks like a protective suit.

On January 4th, the user with the number "6262748" posted the topic "[Chat] China's Space Baby" on the forum, and attached two pictures, one of which is a screenshot of the video transmitted on the Internet, and the other is Pictures of inflatable spacesuits sold on Taobao.com.

Comparing the content of the pictures, it can be roughly judged that the clothes worn by the children in the video are this kind of inflatable spacesuits.

Searching on the Chinese social platform around the keyword "spacesuit for kindergarten spacesuit", you can find a video posted by Douyin user @一风水 on January 10. The text content is displayed as "Invisible! A group of kindergarten children! Put it on. Space suit! Sports meeting performance! So cute! Happy Laba Festival to everyone!" Combining the architectural background, costumes, shooting angles and other elements in the video, it can be roughly judged that the video is the same as the "epidemic prevention" video called in Twitter.

The Douyin number watermark at the top left of the video shows that the video is from Douyin number 1164460355, which is Douyin user @ruyi.

@RUYI uploaded a related video on December 29, 2021, and used tags such as #sports performance#spacesuitcute in the title.

On January 10, @ruyi posted a 48-second video on Douyin, showing the children wearing the same clothes as in the video released on the 29th last year from indoors to outdoors, to the playground performing a show, He also said, "I have received a lot of messages from friends in the past few days. I want to watch more babies' performance videos. I collected some to edit."

Combined with the above information, it can be basically confirmed that the white jumpsuit the children wore in the video is an inflatable spacesuit, which is used by the kindergarten for performances.

The so-called "protective clothing" is more like a misunderstanding or malicious misinterpretation of the appearance of clothing.

On January 10th, @ruyi re-released the Douyin video.

In fact, by carefully observing the online video, it can be judged from the information on the screen that there are several doubts about the "epidemic prevention" claimed by the online news.

First, not everyone in the video was wearing so-called "protective suits."

In the 1-2 seconds of the video, an adult woman in a green shirt and black pants appeared on the far left of the screen, without any "protective equipment".

From 7 to 9 seconds, there is a black-clothed woman in the upper right screen, and beside a group of children who are the same height as the children wearing one-piece suits, but in plain clothes, all of them are not protected.

A woman in green clothes and black pants appeared on the left side of the screen without any protection.

Secondly, the footage from the 7th to 12th seconds of the video shows that the children's jumpsuits have obvious "armband" elements.

According to common sense, a piece of protective clothing that can be put on and taken off should be given priority to function and efficiency. Sewing armbands on clothing seems to go against the logic of ordinary people.

There is a clear "armband" logo on the left arm of the jumpsuit.

It is not uncommon for kindergarten children to perform in inflatable space suits in China.

On December 10, 2021, @ Sichuan Observer posted a video on Weibo. It is said that a kindergarten in Zunyi, Guizhou held a sports meeting the day before, and the children collectively entered the stadium wearing space suits.

"China Daily" reported that on December 27, 2021, a kindergarten in Changle, Fujian held an aerospace parent-child activity, allowing children in small classes to wear "space suits".

The kids in these videos are wearing space suits that closely resemble the one-piece suits the kids are wearing in the Twitter video.

To sum up, the news that "China makes children wear protective clothing" to go to school on the Internet is not true. The relevant video comes from Douyin user @ruyi, which allegedly shows the pictures of kindergarten children participating in sports performances.

The white jumpsuits the children are wearing in the video are an inflatable spacesuit that is quite common on shopping platforms and has been featured in multiple media reports.
