Two Lebanese carried out a blackmail operation they had quoted from a movie
The Lebanese security announced the arrest of two citizens who were inspired by a movie to send a fake package in the form of a gift to another citizen, and they threatened to detonate it unless he pays $50,000.
The Public Relations Division of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces said: An unknown person, wearing a hat on his head and wearing a mask and gloves, delivered a parcel to a citizen in front of his house in the Ashrafieh locality, after which a call was received to the recipient by an unknown person informing him that the parcel was an explosive device that will be detonate it if the sum of 50 thousand US dollars is not paid."
The statement, which was circulated by a number of newspapers and websites, added: "After that, the aforementioned citizen threw the parcel in an abandoned building near his place of residence without opening it, and informed the security forces of the incident, and as a result of examining the parcel, it was found that it was a fake package devoid of any materials explosive."
The Public Relations Division was able to identify and arrest the two perpetrators, who are of Lebanese nationality, and after a careful monitoring and control process, they were arrested in Beirut.
And the statement continued: “By interrogating them, the first admitted that he masterminded the process of sending the fake device to a citizen in the Ashrafieh locality, with the aim of extorting him financially, and that this idea was taken from one of the films that he had previously seen and was affected by, and on the basis of the idea of the film, he developed a tight plan to blackmail the person who He got acquainted with him during his work cleaning his house from the rubble after the explosion of the port of Beirut in the Ashrafieh district, and during that period he learned that the owner of the house was one of the owners of financial wealth, and added that he presented the idea to the second, and he agreed to it and they carried out the operation professionally so as not to reveal their matter, and by investigating the second He admitted what was attributed to him.
