Make sure to brush your teeth regularly.. and avoid deadly disease

Identifying the risk factors underlying cancer is essential to reducing the risk of developing this deadly disease.

And a recent study found that flouting your hygiene practice could put you at a 52 percent risk of developing cancer over time.

It is not always clear why cancer cells divide and multiply in the body.

However, growing evidence links a poor lifestyle with an increased risk of cancer, including smoking and eating processed meat, and according to a report by the British newspaper "Express", a study conducted by Harvard University, and summarized in the journal Gut, linked gum disease and the risk of cancer.

Gum disease is a very common condition where the gums are swollen, sore or inflamed. Gum disease can be caused by a number of factors, but the main reason behind this is the accumulation of plaque on your teeth as a result of poor brushing.

The study suggests that the microbes that reside between your teeth and gums may lead to the risk of stomach and esophageal cancer.

Harvard scientists analyzed health data from two large studies involving nearly 150,000 men and women. In up to 28 years of follow-up, people with a history of gum disease were 43 percent more likely to develop esophageal cancer and 52 percent more likely to develop stomach cancer. Compared to people whose gums were healthier.

The risk was higher in those with gum disease severe enough to cause tooth loss.

Fortunately, gum disease is easy to prevent. The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice daily, flossing at least once daily, and getting regular dental exams and cleanings.

In addition to poor oral hygiene, a number of things can increase your risk of developing gum problems, including:

• Smoking.

• Age, as gum disease becomes more common with age.

• Diabetes mellitus, a lifelong condition that causes blood sugar levels to rise dramatically.

• Pregnancy, because hormonal changes can make the gums more susceptible to plaque.

• Weakened immune system, for example due to conditions such as HIV and AIDS or certain treatments, such as chemotherapy.

• Malnutrition, a condition that occurs when a person's diet does not contain the proper amount of nutrients needed by the body.

• Pressure nervous.

What are the symptoms of gum disease?

• Redness and swelling of the gums.

• Bleeding gums after brushing or flossing.

• If gingivitis is not treated, the tissues and bones that support the teeth can also be affected.

• Bad breath.

• A foul taste in your mouth.

• Loose teeth that may make eating difficult.

• Spurs that appear under the gums or teeth (gum abscesses).
