The number of Covid-19 contaminations remained at a very high level on Sunday, nearly 300,000, and hospitals have nearly 22,000 patients sick with Covid, according to figures from the health authorities.

For the day Sunday, 296,097 new cases were registered.

This is 2.5% less than the day before (303,669), but these daily shifts are not very significant because they may be due to statistical catch-ups.

842 new Covid patients at the hospital

To slip these deviations, we calculate the number of new daily cases observed on average over the last seven days.

This indicator, which reached 313,252 new daily cases on Sunday, has experienced a meteoric increase for two weeks, due to the Omicron variant, extremely contagious: it passed the 100,000 mark on December 29, then 200,000 on January 6.

At the hospital, the number of Covid patients continues to increase, with 21,982 patients (against 21,721 the day before), including 842 new patients.

Seven days ago, hospitals in France had 16,365 patients, including 506 admissions.

3,847 patients in critical care units

3,847 of these patients are in critical care services, reserved for the most serious cases, against 3,299 a week ago.

In terms of vaccination, more than 53 million people have received at least one injection (i.e. 79% of the total population) and more than 52 million have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 77.2% of the total population).

On Sunday, 22,421 people still received their first dose.

At the same time, nearly 27 million people received a booster dose, including nearly 178,000 on Sunday.

Since the start of the epidemic, in March 2020, 125,438 people have been killed by the Covid in France.
