According to the official determination by the China Earthquake Networks, an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred in Menyuan County, Haibei Prefecture, Qinghai at 1:45 on January 8, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers and an epicenter at 37.77 degrees north latitude and 101.26 degrees east longitude.
After the earthquake, Xining felt a strong tremor, and people took to the streets to avoid danger.
