China News Service, January 8. The China Earthquake Networks officially determined that an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred in Menyuan County, Beizhou, Qinghai (37.77 degrees north latitude, 101.26 degrees east longitude) at 01:45 on January 08, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
The average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter was about 3,674 meters. The population near the epicenter was relatively sparse, and it was 16 kilometers away from the nearest imperial city, Mongolian township.
