While the United States has just marked the first anniversary of the attack on the Washington Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump, the Republican Party seems to have completed its transformation.

Now totally submissive to the ex-president, he has entered what some qualify as a "

 slow-motion insurgency

".

Far from being swan song for Donald Trump and his supporters, the assault on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021 was the starting point of a new political era in the United States, especially among the Republicans. This is the thesis of our guest, researcher Maya Kandel. For the director of the United States program at the Montaigne Institute, "

the infusion of the great lie accelerated after January 6, all the elected Republican officials embraced this lie which says that the November election was stolen and that Joe Biden is an illegitimate president

”. Gradually, the party was purged of all those who did not adhere to the speech. The GOP subsequently began what some call a "

slow-motion insurgency,

" explains Maya Kandel: "

there have never been as many votes on laws restricting access to the ballot box as in 2021

"affecting above all the minorities who would vote more democratic, especially in the"

pivotal states where the past elections were played out

".

For the specialist it is therefore necessary to monitor the primaries before the mid-term elections this year, "

where the race is really played out".

It is "who will be the most Trumpist

" according to Maya Kandel, who believes that "

the end of the purge of the party should take place at that time

 ".
