American director Quentin Tarantino said that he had almost finished work on a book about Rick Dalton, the hero of the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The work was titled "The Man Who Could Be McQueen: A Filmography of Rick Dalton."

According to the director, the manuscript still needs to be edited.

The movie star of Westerns in the film was played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The author compares his book with real filmographies of actors of the 1970s.

The director gives a short biography of Dalton, and also describes his entire career until the end of his career in 1988.

Tarantino reviews every work of Dalton and retells a summary of fictional films with the participation of a non-existent actor.

According to Tarantino's plan, he himself wrote the filmography of the actor - Quentin Tarantino of the late 1990s.

The author spoke about his own fictional meeting with Rick Dalton, which allegedly took place in 1998 during the Hawaiian International Film Festival.

“They agree to have lunch together.

Rick comes to the hotel where I am staying and this is it!

He put on twenty kilograms, but this is it.

We have a lot of fun, he turns out to be a cool guy, he even comes to the screening of my film.

He retired a long time ago and usually attends [only] a couple of premieres a year, ”notes author Quentin Tarantino on the Empire podcast.

According to the director, the fictional meeting with the actor inspired Quentin Tarantino in 1999 to arrange a retrospective of Rick Dalton's films.

The actor liked the event, and Tarantino decided to write a biography of the filmmaker.

In the foreword of the book, readers will have a long interview with Rick Dalton.

The director himself believes that Dalton's filmography will be appreciated by a “narrow audience”.

“Everyone who likes Rick, who cares about him, who is interested in learning the trajectory of his career, who is imbued with my alternative history of Hollywood ... Well, this book brings the alternative history of Hollywood to its very bitter end,” Tarantino assures.

The film "Once Upon a Time in ... Hollywood" was released in 2019.

The film is based on real events of 1969.

In particular, the murder of the Hollywood actress, wife of Roman Polanski Sharon Tate by the followers of Charles Manson.

The main characters of the tape - actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt) - become involved in the fate of Polanski's wife.

Fictional heroes change the course of history.

The film won two Oscars, three Golden Globes and many other awards.

Two years later, Tarantino's book "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was published. The novel has 400 pages, at the request of the author it was published in paperback. The work partially repeats the picture, the book also contains a lot of new information: the stories of crimes of Manson's "Family", anecdotes from the life of Hollywood, details from the biographies of the main and minor characters. Many pages are dedicated to the stuntman Cliff - Tarantino described the hobbies and character of the hero. In addition, in the book, the author indirectly mentions himself several times. For example, according to the novel, the main character, Rick Dalton, being impressed by the musician Kurt's work (Tarantino's real stepfather), leaves an autograph for his son Quentin.

Another book by Quentin Tarantino is due out soon, Cinema Speculation, which the author hopes to complete before the release of Rick Dalton's filmography.

In a non-fiction work, various materials about the cinema of the 1970s will be collected: we are talking about essays, reviews and other works.

Like Tarantino's debut book, Film Speculations will be published by the publishing company HarperCollins, but the exact release date is still unknown.

Earlier, Quentin Tarantino announced his intention to shoot a spaghetti western in which the characters will speak different languages.

However, it is possible that the next film of the director may be the continuation of the cult action movie "Kill Bill".

In October 2021, at the Rome Film Festival, the director was asked the appropriate question, to which Tarantino replied: "Why not?"
