Less affected than other regions by the coronavirus epidemic in previous waves, Brittany had welcomed patients from other regions.

As part of national solidarity, the region is still mobilized as the fifth wave of Covid-19 is sweeping the country.

This Wednesday, two patients in intensive care at the Bastia hospital center were transferred by plane to Brest airport before being taken care of at the city hospital. "These are two unvaccinated patients, carriers of multiple comorbidities, suffering from a severe form of Covid-19, intubated and ventilated," said the Corsican Regional Health Agency in a press release, specifying that the patients are "two women aged 64 and 78".

Saturated resuscitation services in Corsica

On the Isle of Beauty, the health situation is becoming critical and continues to deteriorate. "The number of new hospital admissions is increasing considerably, which leads to an ever greater saturation of the intensive care units of the two hospitals", specifies the Regional Health Agency.

At the end of December, two patients hospitalized in Bastia had already been transferred to Brittany and received at the Brest army hospital and at the Pays de Morlaix hospital center.

Two patients from Chambéry, two others from Marseille and one from Lyon have also been transferred to the region in recent days.
