A little over two months after the closure of the Allonnes mosque (Sarthe) by prefectural decision, the two associations managing the place were dissolved Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, announced Gérald Darmanin.

The "Allonnaise association for the Just Milieu" and the Al Qalam association are suspected of "relations with the radical Islamist movement".

The Minister of the Interior also estimated on Twitter that they "incite hatred".

The Allonnes mosque, near Le Mans, which hosts around 300 worshipers, was closed for six months at the end of October because it was suspected of legitimizing armed jihad or terrorism during its sermons.

This closure was validated at the end of November by the Council of State.

A Koranic school bringing together 110 children

According to the dissolution decree, the two associations "promote a radical practice of Islam, legitimizing the use of armed jihad, death as a martyr as well as the establishment of Sharia" and "legitimizing terrorist attacks".

The "very radical" education provided in the Koranic school (about 110 children) managed by associations "legitimizes and promotes armed jihad as well as hatred of Jews or the killing of homosexuals", indicates the decree.

In October, when the mosque's closure was announced, a local source who requested anonymity assured that this structure was not a school per se and was content to give Arabic lessons to children.

The main imam of the mosque "gave sermons in which he called unbelievers enemies of Islam", also took up the decree.

Their assets had been frozen

The assets of the two associations managing the mosque and some of their leaders had been frozen on October 13 "to cut off all hate activities," government spokesman Gabriel Attal said.

According to the Interior Ministry, France has 2,623 mosques and prayer rooms.

Of this total, "21 places of worship are currently closed, due to administrative requirements, a court decision, a lease takeover, work or an administrative closure", according to the Interior Ministry.

Six are “under investigation” with a view to possible closure.
