Husband strangles his pregnant wife to death with the help of his parents for not paying the dowry

In a horrific incident, the husband and his family have been arrested by the Indian police for the murder of a pregnant woman due to her family's unfairness of the dowry.

According to the Indian press, the victim, a 24-year-old woman, was found dead in mysterious circumstances, while her husband's family tried to describe what happened as a "suicide."

The victim's mother said that her daughter was tortured and harassed by her husband and his family because of the dowry.

The victim's family continued to claim that her in-laws killed her and made it look like a suicide.

Jagandeep, his mother and father were arrested by the police on dowry and murder charges.

Inspector Surinder Kumar, the officer of the Moti Nagar district police station where the accident occurred, stated that they have registered a case against the accused.

The victim had been married to Jagandeep about a year and a half ago, and soon after the marriage, her husband and parents started torturing her over the dowry.

The victim's mother, Rajni Sharma, said her family had also tried to intervene several times but the Jagandeep family's position remained the same and they refused to change their mistreatment of the victim.

On Monday morning, Rajni Sharma said her family had received a call from her in-laws who claimed she had ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

The victim was found dead on her bed and her belongings were also scattered, indicating that she had struggled for life.

Relatives of the victim said that her body bore signs of physical abuse and strangulation.

The concept of dowry in India refers to the precious possessions or the money that the bride’s family offers to the groom upon marriage, as the matter is contrary to what is common in Arab countries that the dowry is an obligation on the poor, not the bride.

Inherited traditions burden the bride's family with heavy financial burdens, as they have to provide valuable gifts in large quantities to the groom's family, which made the birth of males preferable to the birth of females in Indian families.
