A Saudi researcher raises a storm of controversy after "provocative" statements about tribes
Television statements deemed provocative by the Saudi sociologist, Saad Abdullah Al-Suwayan, in which he called for the abolition of the role of tribes in society, sparked widespread controversy in the Saudi community on social networking sites.
During an interview on the "In the Picture" program, Saad Abdullah Al-Suwayan, who studied "anthropology" in the United States, said: "I wish decision-makers to launch a movement or program to encourage intermarriage and intermarriage between tribes and non-tribes, Bedouins and urban ones, in order to integrate society."
Al-Suwayan pointed out that “people have learned and there is personal freedom, and the young man no longer hears his father’s words about marrying the daughter of so-and-so, nor does the girl hear her family’s words about marrying her cousin,” noting that “the role of the tribe is now over, and that Vision 2030 has distorted the direction of economic and social achievements.” And that people are now beginning to make gains away from your origin and separation.”
The Saudi researcher pointed out that "the concept of the homeland has begun to be entrenched. If you want to prove your identity, say that you are Saudi and salvation."
The Saudi researcher questioned the existence of a "uniform lineage for each tribe."
Under the hashtag: “#The Tribe_Red Line”, the pioneers of social networking sites in the Kingdom were divided between supporters of Al-Suwayan’s words, and those who opposed, and the Saudi academic, Muhammad Al-Zahrani, commented: “So that Saad Al-Suwayan does not reach his goal and so that the superficial do not fish in turbid waters, Our defense of the tribes is a defense of a basic and essential component of the formation of the state and the homeland, and this does not exclude other components with their ethnic, relative, sectarian and historical differences.
The researcher in the field of intellectual security, Muhammad Al-Hadla, criticized Al-Suwayan, saying: “The tribe is an essential component of society, and provoking society in its most important components is unacceptable or reasonable and underestimated. With red lines set for the programmer and presenter, he does not cross them due to his well-known background.”
As the well-known Saudi blogger Munther Al-Sheikh Mubarak said, in response to Al-Suwayan: “I do not know what the name of the tribe disturbs some, and I do not know why some calls are repeated!!
I do not believe that the goal is the homeland, and if that was the case, they would have found the answer in the battles to unite the homeland, and they would have found it now on the southern border!!
The tribe is an identity, belonging to the religion and the homeland, and loyalty and obedience to the rulers!!”
