THE ESSENTIAL
The pressure due to the fifth wave of Covid is increasing on the hospital with more than 2,000 admissions in 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health France on Monday, which also indicate a continuous increase in coronavirus contaminations.
On average, over the last seven days, more than 167,000 people have been infected with daily peaks sometimes exceeding 200,000.
Faced with the "tidal wave" of the Omicron variant, the French deputies began Monday, in a stormy atmosphere, the examination of the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccine pass.
Testifying to the harshness of the discussions, the debates were suspended shortly after midnight, against the wishes of the government, by a surprise vote of a majority of deputies, thus compromising the timetable for the final adoption of the text.

7:38 a.m .: A dramatic turn of events at the Assembly where the examination of the text is suspended
While new rules to try to curb the epidemic came into force on Monday, deputies unexpectedly suspended consideration of the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccination pass, refusing to continue the debates after midnight. A twist that will delay the timetable for the final adoption of the text by parliament, which is however not in doubt despite the hostility of LFI, RN and PCF deputies.
While the majority denounced the "irresponsibility" of the opposition, the deputy LR Julien Aubert welcomed a "snub for the government", the leader of the rebels Jean-Luc Mélenchon seeing in the vote against the continuation of the debates a "Correction" for the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.
