A new record concerning the use of the bicycle has just been crossed in the metropolis of Lyon.
In 2021, nearly 38 million bicycle trips were recorded in the city, against 30 million the previous year.
That is an increase of almost 27% in one year.
The cycle path on the banks of the Rhône remains the most frequented with nearly 3.5 million passages recorded over the last twelve months.
"In 2022, we will exceed 40 million thanks to the improvements", predicts Fabien Bagnon, vice-president in charge of roads and active mobility.
In particular, the metropolis must inaugurate in 2024-2025 the first line of its express bicycle network, 17 kilometers of cycle paths which will link the Mas du Taureau district to Vaulx-en-Velin in Saint-Fons, passing through the campus of the Doua de Villeurbanne, the banks of the Rhône and the Halle Tony Garnier.
The first section of this first line is due to be put into service this year, between Boulevard des Belges and Avenue Berthelot.
