A case of double infection with Covid-19 and influenza detected in Israel

Take the Covid-19 on one side, the flu on the other, combine the two and you have "flurona", a contraction of influenza in English ("flu") and corona, for coronavirus.

The combo of the two diseases is feared.

In Israel, it has come true.

Authorities announced last week that a woman had been infected with both viruses at the same time.

The latter, pregnant and unvaccinated, neither against the flu, nor against the Covid-19, was hospitalized at the Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikva, east of Tel Aviv, specifies

. She had mild symptoms of difficulty breathing. "He was diagnosed with the flu and the coronavirus as soon as he arrived," explains Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, director of the hospital's gynecology department in the columns of the

. The two diseases are the same. They are viral and cause breathing difficulties because both attack the upper respiratory tract. In good health, the patient was released from the hospital on Thursday.

In Israel, authorities believe that other patients must have contracted the two viruses, without having been diagnosed.
