Two women in their twenties living in Chiba Prefecture were confirmed to be infected with the Omicron strain.

Infection with the new corona was confirmed at the end of last month, both of which were mild and are currently hospitalized at medical institutions in the prefecture, and as a result of genome analysis, it was confirmed to be an Omicron strain.

One of them has been vaccinated twice and the other has no vaccination history.

The prefecture has not confirmed contact with infected persons with Omicron strains and has no history of staying abroad, so it is considered to be a community-acquired infection.

This is the first case of a possible community-acquired infection, with five people infected with the Omicron strain confirmed in Chiba Prefecture.

The prefecture has decided to shift the level of infection from 1 to 2 and increase the number of beds by about 500 to secure 1464 beds.

Governor Kumagai commented, "Omicron strains may spread at a very high rate, and the situation is unpredictable. I would like to ask the citizens of the prefecture and businesses to continue to implement basic infection control measures." I put it out.
