Syria...the number of plastic surgeons has increased at the expense of vital specialties

The deputy head of the Doctors Syndicate in Syria, Ghassan Fendi, considered that the desire of doctors in the past two years to specialize in cosmetic matters has overshadowed any specialty, according to what he told Al-Watan newspaper.

Fendi pointed out that "there are currently many rare and vital specialties in Syria, including anesthesia, thoracic, thoracic surgery and neurologists, although they are very popular in the West and neighboring countries, and therefore there is an abundance of specialization and a scarcity of other specializations."

In a statement to Al-Watan, Fendi pointed out that "in the past two years, Syria has produced doctors specializing in plastic surgery, times the number of doctors specializing in these rare specialties." He expected that the number of doctors in Syria would be between 25 to 27 thousand.

With regard to the issue of anesthesiologists, Fendi confirmed, "The number of those who have specialized in this specialty during the last ten years in every hospital does not exceed the fingers of one hand every year, and therefore the alarm bell has been sounded for years about the depletion of the number of anesthesiologists."

He revealed that, "so far, the union has not informed the economic committee of any decision on increasing the compensation of anesthesiologists," expressing his hope that there will be an improvement in their compensation, "although there are some obstacles that we run into, and therefore there are some issues that the anesthesiologists have to do with each other and other issues." Others are the responsibility of the government to improve their situation."

With regard to matters related to anesthesiologists, he believed that "they must find a formula among themselves through which they preserve their rights," noting that "there are some doctors who work in private hospitals and work in more than one operating room so as not to allow their colleagues to work in this hospital, despite the fact that Working in more than one operating room is against the law of the Ministry of Health,” stressing “the need for anesthesiologists to work to preserve the rights among them.”

He pointed out that "the issue of the medical tariff must be dealt with, because the one who takes an examination of a thousand pounds is against, and the one who takes 25 thousand is also against it, because the current tariff is 700 pounds."
