Al-Hurriya area, Port Said Governorate, Egypt, witnessed a tragic accident in which residential unit No. 10 in property No. 88 was burnt, killing a 3-year-old child.

The child Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim was celebrating with his poor family his third birthday, and he spent his time playing with his brother and mother, while his father worked and searched for a livelihood in Cairo Governorate.

At two in the morning of this day, the child witnessed a fire burning in his sleeping mother’s bedroom, so he rushed to her to save her from her sleep, calling: “Get up, Hajar, you will die, and the fire is surrounding the little child.”

The mother woke up from her sleep to find the fire consuming the bed on which she slept and the blanket she was sheltering in from the cold, and no moments passed until the fire ate part of her body, and immediately carried the child out of the house and left him at the door so that he could escape himself from the fire.

The mother broke into the fire again to save her crippled mother and her other son, and as soon as she entered the room, the fire reached its doors and trapped them inside the room. The mother did not see who was with her inside the room because of the thick smoke that obscured the view.

The mother kept screaming from the balcony of the house, until a neighbor informed the civil protection, which arrived immediately and managed to rescue the woman, her mother and her other child, and then carried out the firefighting work.

No one expected this 3-year-old child to return to the fire again after the mother took him out, but he refused to escape himself and returned to save his family despite his young age, so he was the only victim in the accident.

Mrs. Hajar, the mother of the child Ahmed, says that despite his young age, he felt that he was older than that, and he was speaking in the language of adults, and she cited that he was the one who discovered the fire and realized the extent of the danger, and worked to save his mother, grandmother and brother, to perform a heroic act before he left Men.

The father of the child works as a driver in a company and receives 100 pounds for each working day. While he was on his way until he was informed of the accident and the departure of his son, he rushed to the public transport stop, and returned to Port Said to take a last look at his dead son, to take him to his final resting place in Port Said cemeteries.

The family returned after treatment, and the unit in which they lived has turned to ashes, and nothing remains of it, and the family does not have the means to rehabilitate the apartment to live in it despite their painful ordeal.
