Strong police mobilization in sight for this New Year's Eve.

Some 95,000 police and gendarmes are mobilized in France, including 9,000 in Paris, in particular to enforce the ban on spontaneous gatherings in the face of the outbreak of Covid-19 cases, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

In total, the security system represents 127,000 people, since it also includes 32,000 firefighters and civil security actors, detailed the ministry.

In addition, nearly 3,200 soldiers of the Sentinel force are added to the device.

The device is roughly identical to 2020 (100,000 police and gendarmes).

"The slight decrease is explained by an increase in the device last year to enforce the curfew and by increased mobilization in the West Indies and New Caledonia for several weeks," said Beauvau.

Banned gatherings in the crosshairs

In Paris, where 9,000 police officers will be mobilized, the prefecture has announced the closure of drinking establishments on Saturday and Sunday from 2 am, also prohibiting "all dance activities in all establishments open to the public".

Gatherings of people giving rise to the consumption of alcohol on public roads are also prohibited in Paris.

The police will also control the wearing of the mask, which is again compulsory in the streets of Paris, in the Paris region and in many cities in France, such as Lyon.

"Given the number of people or situations that we risk to manage, of course that risks being secondary" to control the wearing of the mask, declared on BFMTV / RMC David Le Bars, of the union of the commissioners.

"There are two priorities this (Friday) evening: the forbidden gatherings against a background of alcohol, and you know that when there is alcohol it is difficult to convince and then there are those who will commit acts delinquency, ”he added.
