Shimane Prefecture announced on the 30th that it was confirmed that three people living in Izumo City were infected with Omicron strain, a new mutant virus of the new coronavirus.

This is the first time that infection with Omicron strain has been confirmed in Shimane Prefecture.

This was revealed at a prefectural meeting held on the 30th.

A detailed examination of three of the seven people living in Izumo City, where confirmation of infection was announced on the 28th, revealed that infection with the Omicron strain was confirmed.

None of the three have traveled abroad and have not been confirmed to have contact with anyone who has traveled abroad.

In addition, the 20 people who were confirmed to be infected in the prefecture during the three days up to the 30th were all related persons such as users and employees of four restaurants in Izumo city, and Shimane prefecture was related to restaurants. Assuming that an outbreak has occurred, we are investigating the infection route and whether or not we are infected with the Omicron strain.

At the same time, Shimane Prefecture has announced the names of two restaurants whose customers have not been identified, and is calling on those who use them to consult with the prefecture's call center.

Governor Maruyama of Shimane Prefecture said, "We will strengthen the system of the health center even during the year-end and New Year holidays, and by conducting active epidemiological investigations and wide-ranging tests, we will minimize the spread of infection."
