Are you looking for a book to read during the Christmas holidays, but do not know which one to choose?

Maybe the tips from SVT Babel's author panel can be an inspiration!

"A very important debut novel"

When the panel suggested debut novels, the author Tone Schunnesson brought with her Charlotte Brontë's classic Jane Eyre.

- It has been a very important debut novel in my life, and it has also made me appreciate novel characters that you may not quite like or that you have a hard time with, but that you still feel very, very committed to, said Tone Schunnesson .

Even at the end of the season, Tone Schunnesson hinted at a notable debut: Poems by the recently deceased poet Yahya Hassan.

- There is a poem where his father grills and he looks at his father's hands, which usually hit him.

And then a butterfly lands on the father's arm and then the arm becomes so beautiful.

It's incredible!

"Sad and humorous narrator's voice"

In the episode when the panel talked about memorable narrator voices, the author Johannes Anyuru brought with him the Dwarf by Pär Lagerkvist.

The book is written in an "I" perspective and in diary form.

- It is such a sad and humorous voice that speaks here.

What Lagerkvist does so fantastically well is that he writes about this abominable little hoof dwarf so that you as a reader still feel a kind of sympathy for him, said Johannes Anyuru.

“A heavenly fine love story”

In the Babel season finale, the panel tipped off about Christmas gift books.

The poet and psychoanalyst Ulf Karl Olov Nilsson, “UKON”, then brought with him Kerstin Ekman's latest novel, Running a Wolf.

He describes the book as a mixture of diary narration, critique of civilization and detective stories.

- It has a kind of simple grandeur over it, which I think suits most people.

In addition, it is a heavenly, heavenly fine love story, said UKON.

During the autumn season, the authors Agneta Pleijel, Agnes Lidbeck, Mats Jonsson, Aris Fioretos, Theodor Khallifatides, Christoffer Carlsson and Kayo Mpoyi also participated in the panel.
