The parents of a 10-year-old girl, mistakenly vaccinated with a half-dose of Moderna intended for adults in Avranches (Manche), have filed a complaint, we learned Wednesday from corroborating sources.
"A complaint was filed by the father for these facts", told AFP the prosecutor of the Republic of Coutances Cyril Lacombe, confirming information from the local press.
A dose transmitted by mistake
According to the Normandy Regional Health Agency, "a child who came to be vaccinated on December 22 at the Avranches vaccination center received a half-dose of Moderna by mistake, instead of the pediatric Pfizer".
"This error having been immediately noticed by the health professionals of the center, the family was received on site by the referring doctor", continues the ARS in an email to AFP, specifying that the child "is doing well" .
According to the agency, the exchange with the doctor made it possible to present to parents "the possible post-vaccine effects and the main signs that may suggest an adverse effect, in particular very rare cases of cardiac inflammation, reversible and not serious. ".
The Moderna vaccine not recommended for children under 30
According to the director of the Avranches-Granville Hospital Center Joanny Allombert, interviewed by France Bleu, the girl was referred by a health professional to a bad queue.
“We manage several vaccination lines at the same time.
And at one point there was a slippage.
The girl was asked to sit in the wrong place because there was no room in the right place.
And it just happened.
The nurse gave the injection and immediately realized her mistake.
It shouldn't have happened, ”said Mr. Allombert.
ARS Normandie specifies that it has put in place "an analysis of the situation and immediate corrective measures".
The pediatric vaccination line for children aged 5 to 11 had been activated in mid-December.
At the beginning of November, the High Authority for Health in France (HAS) had advised against the use of the Moderna vaccine for those under 30, based in particular on a study according to which it slightly increases the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis for this population.
