In Alar City of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in the upper reaches of the Tarim River, there is a patch of sleeping Populus euphratica of nearly 70,000 mu.

Due to the diversion of ancient rivers and their northward movement, the original Populus euphratica forest has dried up year by year, and over the years has formed a landscape of dead Populus euphratica.

Populus euphratica trees still stand in the desert after death, with a dry trunk, either standing upright or lying horizontally, with different shapes, forming a unique and magnificent landscape, so it is called "Sleeping Populus".

At present, the Sleeping Populus Valley Scenic Area has been built in the area, and it is listed as one of the top ten landscapes of the Tarim River in Alar City.
