Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 27th. Question: Why is the snowfall in the south during this cold wave so obvious?

"Northerners watch the snow in the south in the circle of friends"... In the past few days, many netizens have been watching the snow scene in the south on social media.

Under the influence of low temperature, rain and snow, many places in the south have adopted measures such as suspension of classes and traffic control.

According to data from the Central Meteorological Observatory, at 7 o'clock on the 27th, the depth of snow in eastern Guizhou and central and northern Hunan was 5 to 12 cm, and local areas such as Tongren in Guizhou, Huaihua and Yiyang in Hunan reached 15 to 22 cm.

Why is the snow more obvious in the south after the same cold wave?

Zhang Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that the reason is the confluence of cold and warm air.

"The cold air path of this cold wave is not'conventional.' It is different from the previous impact in our country from northwest to southeast. This cold air invasion path is easterly, and the impact on the east is earlier and stronger, and the impact on the west is weaker." Zhang Tao said that when the cold air affects the east, the force is stronger, and the warm and humid air currents are weak, so the rain and snow in the east are not obvious.

However, the cold air to the west met the warm and humid air from the Bay of Bengal, and fierce confrontation in Guizhou and Hunan, forming a large area of rain and snow.

On the 26th, the range of snowfall was further expanded, and the snow area reached eastern Guizhou in the morning, with obvious snowfall in Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei and other places.

Monitoring showed that on the 26th, snow or sleet weather occurred in eastern Chongqing, northeastern Yunnan, central and northern Guizhou, southern Hubei, central and northern Hunan, and northwestern Jiangxi.

In big cities, Changsha, Guiyang, etc. have also ushered in the early snow this winter.

As the cold wave warning is lifted, the rain and snow weather process in the southern region will gradually weaken and end from the 27th to the 28th.

However, the end of the rain and snow does not mean that it can "turn the clouds and see the sun." The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a low temperature blue warning on the 27th: affected by the residual forces of the cold wave, the temperature in most parts of the south rose slowly, and it continued to be cloudy.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that from the 27th to the 28th, the daily average temperature in Guizhou, southeastern Chongqing, Hunan, western Jiangxi, Guangxi, northwestern Guangxi, central and southern Jiangsu, Shanghai, and northeastern Zhejiang will be about 5℃ lower than the same period in history. , Among which some areas in southeastern Guizhou, southwest Hunan and other places are as low as 7℃.

“Due to the combination of cold air and the existence of a large number of cloud areas, and the combined effect of the north wind brought by the cold wave, the wind chill effect in most parts of the south is more obvious.” Zhang Tao said that the temperature in most parts of the north has stopped falling and rebounded from the 26th. The low conditions have gradually improved. The temperature recovery rate in the southern region will be slower, and it is expected to pick up gradually after the 28th.

Experts reminded that due to the slow rise in temperature in most parts of the south, it is still in a downturn, accompanied by rainy weather, causing the body to feel wet and cold.

The public should pay attention to cold and warm measures, and should pay attention to the adverse effects of road icing and slippery roads caused by low temperature rain and snow.
