Shiga Prefecture announced on the 27th that it was confirmed for the first time that one female in the prefecture was infected with the new mutant virus "Omicron strain" of the new coronavirus.

Shiga Prefecture says that it is not a community-acquired infection because it seems that the female was infected at a place of work outside the prefecture.

Infection with the Omicron strain was confirmed in one woman living in Shiga prefecture who was hospitalized with the new corona infection.

This is the first confirmation of infection with Omicron strains in Shiga prefecture.

According to Shiga Prefecture, the woman works outside the prefecture and has a colleague who is suspected of being infected with the Omicron strain at her place of employment.

The female is mildly ill and has no history of traveling abroad, and Shiga Prefecture states that "the female seems to have been infected at work and is not a community-acquired infection."

In addition, a total of four female close contacts, including parents living together, all had a negative PCR test and had no symptoms so far.

Shiga Prefecture is calling for "the community-acquired infection of Omicron strains has already been confirmed in multiple prefectures, and we want the citizens of the prefecture to continue to implement basic infection control measures."
