The future president of the Conference of Ministers of Education, Karin Prien (CDU), is in favor of vaccinations against Corona in schools. She referred to good experiences in the north. "At the beginning of August, Schleswig-Holstein was the first state to have comprehensive vaccinations in secondary schools," said Prien, who is the education minister in the state, the "Handelsblatt". "We already have more than 70 percent of 12 to 17-year-olds vaccinated at least once, so we're way ahead." Prien succeeds Brandenburg's education minister Britta Ernst (SPD) as president.

Prien, who also wants to become vice-chairwoman of the CDU, is against an extension of the Christmas holidays, as requested by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

"In my opinion, there is neither a legal basis nor an objective justification for such a comprehensive school closure in all federal states." Despite the Omikron variant of the coronavirus, schools should only be closed in extreme emergencies.

For lessons, Prien recommends the use of so-called CO2 traffic lights, which indicate when it is time to ventilate.

They cost significantly less than 100 euros, she said.

The intermittent ventilation every 20 minutes for two to three minutes is, in Prien's words, “quite reasonable”.

On the other hand, she takes a critical view of air filters: They are of little use and they are not a substitute for ventilation.
