Notre bench

by Saskia Sarginson, published on September 22, 2021 by Éditions La belle étoiles.

Her favorite quote:

“I stopped going to wait for him on the bench.

He will not come.

Part of me is dead, but I don't intend to let it absorb me entirely. "

Why this book?

  • Because from the beginning it is obvious between Cat and Sam

who meet in 1983 in Atlanta, in the United States. She works in a funeral home, she is lonely, lives in a chaotic family and has a passion for writing. Sam is British, and his gap year of travel, music and dating is coming to an end. Between them, everything is simple from the first glance. A few days of incredible romance, the start of a long love affair, it seems.

  • Because between missed dates, misunderstandings and other dirty tricks of fate, months and years go by. Both move forward in their lives, always having the other in thoughts. When we think that it is finally time for them to reunite, our heart breaks when their two souls fail to meet. We are witnesses of their thoughts, their emotions and their desires. We want to shout to them that the other is not far, that it's the perfect day to go near this bench in order to hope to fall on the other, but we can not do anything to our great despair.

  • Because we will follow our character duo for thirty years.

Thirty years of love despite the absence and the silence.

Thirty years of wondering if this first love is really the strongest?

    The purest?

A final meeting is fixed in 2004. It is at this moment that this novel opens.

    Who will be present?

Will they finally be able to give themselves fully to each other and finally live serenely and happy?

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

It begins on a bench on Hampstead Hill in 2004, where a woman is expecting a man.

Ten years earlier, they made a promise: on that exact date, on that bench, they will end this love affair that has lasted thirty years, or else they will decide to start all over again.

Characters.

 Sam and Cat.

Their parents and family.

Places.

 Atlanta in the USA.

London, Brixton, England.

The time.

 From 1983 to 2004.

The author.

Saskia Sarginson has worked for magazine press, radio and publishing, but now devotes herself entirely to writing.

She is the author of several thrillers.

This book was read with

 a bitter taste, despite everything.

Because here is a fascinating love story but why waste so many years and not listen to yourself?

Why pretend?

Why not be selfish and send everything flying to find your only soul mate?

A romantic comedy that shows that great, true love really exists!
