Kanagawa Prefecture has announced that three men and women living in the prefecture are suspected of being infected with the Omicron strain, a mutant virus of the new coronavirus.

According to the prefecture, there are three suspected Omicron strains, including females in their thirties and men in their sixties and twenties.

Of these, a woman in her thirties is a family member of a man in her thirties who was announced on the 25th to be the first in the prefecture to be infected with the Omicron strain.

After returning from the United States together, the test was positive on the 24th, and since it was not a Delta strain, the prefecture is rushing to analyze the genome because it is suspected to be an Omicron strain.

Also, on the 21st of this month for men in their 60s and on the 22nd for men in their 20s, when they returned from Turkey, they waited at accommodations and homes in the prefecture as close contacts of people who were on the same plane. However, by the 25th, the test was positive and it was not a Delta strain.

All three have mild symptoms.

According to the prefecture, the three do not use public transportation to travel from the airport, and so far the only close contacts are the families of men in their twenties.

So far, only one person has been confirmed to be infected with the Omicron strain in the prefecture, and four people have been suspected of being infected and are undergoing genome analysis, including one announced on the 25th.
