This week, the world witnessed an event that took 20 years of tireless work by three space agencies, namely, the US Space Agency (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency. This event that deserves to be called a historic event is the launch of the James Telescope. Webb”, usually such telescopes were aimed at researching the planet Earth or Mars, but what is new today is that this telescope will search the universe, and will try to access the history of the universe during the past 13 billion years, some of us may have seen this event in the news, and we have It will be passed unnoticed, but the expected results will be amazing and perhaps shocking, and may even change beliefs and theories, and pave the way for scientific conquests that humans do not imagine.
What this telescope will do is beyond all science fiction films, and everything presented by “Hollywood”, and it suffices to know that one of the telescope’s tasks is to monitor some of the most distant astronomical objects in the universe, and some astronomical and cosmic events such as the formation of the first galaxies, and a detailed description of the atmospheres of planets Outside the solar system, which could have habitable planets, the telescope will search for the light emitted by the first stars and galaxies, which were formed after the Big Bang, as a large part of scientists believe, and the work of the telescope will help in understanding the formation of stars and the evolution of life.. Simply it will contribute in understanding the order of the universe.
This scientific conquest, which cost billions of dollars, and took two decades to work on, may bring news and scientific facts that we do not expect. Matters that require religious interpretations may be discovered, and new sciences may emerge, and whoever has the lead in understanding and acquiring them will have a comparative advantage that may change the rules of the game in Industry and all aspects of life. Are our scientists and scientific institutions in the Arab world well-informed and ready to understand what the universe may have on our beautiful planet, which we have offended and come close to destroying? It is true that some Arab countries such as Egypt and the UAE have begun to enter the world of space and are on the way to localizing the space industry, But what about the rest of the Arab world, and what about our educational and research institutions? The space industry is not limited to exploring new planets or space tourism, but includes satellite missions, which can bring much good to the peoples of the Earth, in terms of solving intractable problems and exploring and following up on our planet.Marine resources, and even satellites have a major role in the fight against terrorism.
The beauty of the matter is that the telescope was named James Webb, and he was director of the American space agency “NASA” during 1961 - 1968, and he did great work for “NASA”, and he played a major role in many major space projects, and this indicates the appreciation of scientists and their honor for their contributions. This is considered one of the reasons for scientific and industrial progress in the United States and Western countries.
