China News Service, Guangzhou, December 23 (Reporter Cheng Jingwei and Chen Chuhong) Guangzhou Society of Cultural Relics, Guangzhou Academy of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Nanyue King Museum and Guangzhou Museum jointly held a press conference in Guangzhou on the 23rd to officially announce the "100 Cultural Relics of Guangzhou Archaeology" "Excellent and Top Ten Important Discoveries" selection results.

  The era of cultural relics selected as one of the top 100 cultural relics in Guangzhou archaeology covers the late Neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty. The types of cultural relics are rich and diverse and have high historical, artistic, scientific, cultural and social value.

Including the late Neolithic painted pottery bowl unearthed at the Jinlan Temple site in Zengcheng, the Shang period Shizhang unearthed at the Nansha Lujing Village site, and the Western Han Dynasty Nanyue Kingdom "Panyu" inscription bronze tripod unearthed from the tomb of the King of Wen of Nanyue.

  The ten important archaeological discoveries in Guangzhou range from the late Neolithic period to the modern age. They are rich in types, including tombs, building foundations, sluices, ancient roads, kiln sites, academies, docks, etc.

Including the Jinlan Temple site in Zengcheng, the Tianhe Feieling site group, the Huangpu Pitouling site, the relics of the Nanyue Kingdom in the Western Han Dynasty (the tomb of the King of Wen of Nanyue, the ruins of the Nanyue Kingdom Palace, the ruins of the wooden sluice gate of the Nanyue Kingdom), the ancient road of Beijing Road, the South of the Five Dynasties Han De Mausoleum and Kang Mausoleum, Emperor Gangxi Village Kiln, Ming Dynasty Lotus Academy Ruins in Zengcheng, Ming and Qing Dock Ruins of Nanhai Temple, and the building base site of the Three Congresses of the Communist Party of China.

  The person in charge of the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology stated that the archeological achievements of Guangzhou, including one hundred exquisite cultural relics and ten important discoveries, carry Guangzhou’s five to six thousand years of human social history and more than 2,200 years of urban memory, and fully reflect Lingnan. The origin of regional civilization and the formation and development process of Lingnan culture reflect the remarkable achievements of the interaction between ancient Guangzhou and neighboring areas, as well as the remarkable achievements of exchanges with other civilizations in the world through the Maritime Silk Road. It has witnessed the history of urban archaeology and cultural relic protection in Guangzhou in the past 70 years. .

Through these archaeological achievements, the ancient history of Guangzhou was reconstructed, and the life of the ancestors became fresh and vivid.

  The selection activity includes two links: online voting by the public and final evaluation by experts.

Online voting starts on October 20, 2021, and ends on November 20, 2021.

The final expert review meeting was held on November 22. Seven experts including Liu Rui, researcher of the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Huang Miaozhang, counselor of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, and Cao Jin, director of the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, were invited to participate in the review.

  It is reported that the Guangzhou cultural relics department will also hold important archeological discoveries in Guangzhou and a series of special lectures on cultural relics.
