"Sheikh Zayed Book" offers 6 grants to translate award-winning works
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, at the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, offers six grants to translate five winning works, which were published in English, German, French and Georgian in cooperation with four international publishing houses.
The grant is allocated to the award-winning and short-listed works in the Arts and Children's Literature branches, and is available to all international publishing houses that work to publish books in foreign languages.
The translated works in the children’s and youth literature branch include: the story “Without a Hat” by Kuwaiti writer Latifa Butti, winner of the award in 2017, translated into English by Nancy Roberts in cooperation with Darph Publishing, and the story “The Lilac Girl” by Palestinian-American writer Ibtisam Barakat. The winner of the award in 2020, which was translated by Suleiman Tawfik into German in cooperation with the publishing house “Sogit Verlag”, in addition to the book “Thirty Poems for Children” by the Lebanese poet Jawdat Fakhreddine, the winner of the award in 2014, which was translated by Laila Taher into French, and Hoda Fakhr Religion to English in cooperation with the publishing house «Buckland Press».
The list of translated works in the literature branch also includes: The novel “The Test of Remorse” by the Syrian writer Khalil Sweileh, winner of 2018 in the literature branch, which was translated by Suleiman Tawfiq into German in cooperation with the publishing house “Sogit Verlag”, after Nora Druk Publishers At the beginning of this year, with its translation into Ukrainian by Aksana Prokhovich, and the novel “The Madmen of Bethlehem” by the Palestinian writer Osama Al-Issa, which won 2015 in the literature branch, which was translated by “Darian Gardavdze” into Georgian in cooperation with the publishing house “Intellectual Publishing.” .
