Yahoo uses AI = artificial intelligence to delete comments such as slander posted on the news site it operates, but for the first time announced the number of deletions and the reason for the deletion.

Yahoo has introduced a mechanism such as using AI to automatically delete comments such as slander posted on news sites that it operates, in addition to human monitoring.

On the other hand, it has been pointed out that excessive deletion may occur, so Yahoo received expert recommendations and disclosed the number and reasons for deletion for the first time in an attempt to increase the transparency of its efforts.

According to it, in the comment section of Yahoo News, there were about 10.5 million posts in the month of March, but about 350,000 of them were deleted.

And in the year to the end of March, 71% of the total was automatically deleted by AI, 22% was deleted by human patrol, and 7% was pointed out by outsiders.

Of the reasons for deleting posts that were manually deleted, 65.4% judged them to be unpleasant, 7.9% found them unrelated to the article, and 84.1% found them to be more unpleasant. 11.7% said that they were ethnically discriminated against or hate speech due to excessive criticism.

On the other hand, it is said that the automatic deletion by AI is judged numerically by AI who has learned the elements that people feel uncomfortable in a complex manner.

Professor Tatsuhiko Yamamoto of Keio University, who chaired the study group that made recommendations to Yahoo, said, "I think that the publication of the number of deletions and the reasons is highly evaluated as a social responsibility of platform operators that operate SNS etc. However, it is necessary to constantly review the posting monitoring system and regularly scrutinize the contents and matters that should be made transparent.
