The Public Health Commission has reviewed on Tuesday afternoon the quarantine recommendations for close contacts in the current context of high incidence and wide circulation of

the omicron variant of the coronavirus

.

By majority it has been decided that people who have received a complete vaccination schedule and are close contacts of a positive case, will not need to carry out a 10-day home quarantine. However, these people will be instructed that during this period of 10 days after the last contact with a confirmed case they should limit their activities to the essential ones, reducing their social interactions as much as possible, scrupulously follow prevention measures such as the use of masks and monitor closely for the possible appearance of compatible symptoms.

This decision amends the one adopted on December 2, when this quarantine was established for the contacts of those infected by omicron and suspected cases in Spain.

A measure that was in itself difficult to comply with because the cases sequenced to establish the variant represent a minority percentage of all those notified.

Also, that detail is usually not available at the time of diagnosis.

In addition, at its meeting the Public Health Commission has insisted on

the importance of accelerating the vaccination

of both unvaccinated people over 12 years of age and of booster doses in authorized groups, especially the most vulnerable;

and primary vaccination in boys and girls from 5 to 11 years old.
