What if children organized to save the planet without their parents knowing?
“The Crusade” embodies this idea with humor and generosity.
This militant pamphlet is full of hope and good humor.
We are all going to die and it is “global warming” to blame. But luckily the young people are there to lead
The Crusade
, namely to sell their parents' objects that they deem useless in order to finance a mysterious project to save the planet. Louis Garrel, who co-wrote the screenplay for this funny film with Jean-Claude Carrière, once again features the family he created with Lætitia Casta and Joseph Engel in his previous film,
L'Homme faithful
.
And you have to see them, Louis Garrel and Laetitia Casta as a well-to-do couple, getting angry when they discover that their child has sold their valuables without talking to them.
The kid is part of a worldwide organization of kids who hatched a plan to save the planet before it was too late.
"When Jean-Claude Carrière told me about this story, I first thought it was too naive," Louis Garrel confides to
20 Minutes
.
Then I saw Greta Thunberg on TV and called Jean-Claude back to apologize.
"
Do not play the lesson givers
The toddlers financed themselves by drawing on their parents' overflow to embark on an ambitious and saving journey. "Hope comes from youth," Lætitia Casa told
20 Minutes
. She gets involved because she feels threatened and shows resources and imagination. Comparatively, adults are frankly picking up the scoops when they content themselves with sorting through trash or buying energy-saving light bulbs. But they learn to change because their children galvanize them.
"
The Crusade
is above all a comedy," insists Louis Garrel. We didn't want to teach anyone a lesson. I dream of people going to see the film as a family and that it provokes heated discussions between generations. The undeniable alchemy between the actors is an additional asset to include the public at the heart of a generous tale which knows how to be very funny. "We must not give in to the anguish of the time, insists Laetitia Casta. It's not all bad these days because people are starting to move. It is enough to see how the situation of women evolves to feel optimistic for the rest. "
This green and joyfully utopian pamphlet is inflated with laughing gas to put in an excellent mood without obscuring the serious problems we are facing.
This
Crusade
is balm in the heart and a smile on the lips.
It makes you want to fight without aggression.
