The Sharjah Book Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with the Italian "Meeting Rimini" Foundation, the most important intellectual, cultural and literary events in Europe that host leaders of thought and enlightenment in the world. The memorandum aims to enhance communication between the Emirati and Arab cultural movement and its European counterpart, and open new channels that serve literature and art between the two sides.
For more than 40 years, the "Rimini Meeting" has hosted a group of presidents, leaders, writers and thinkers from around the world, and is attended annually by more than 800,000 people, with the participation of tens of thousands of volunteers, and is held on an area of 120,000 square meters, and its activities are recorded by more than 2.5 million views. The memorandum was signed, in a virtual meeting, by the Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, and the Executive Director of the Rimini Meeting for Friendship between Peoples, Emmanuel Fornali.
The memorandum provides for the development of joint action initiatives to promote human values, and to invest in the elements of arts, literature and knowledge with a global horizon to achieve Emirati-Italian and European cultural communication, and to get acquainted closely with the contemporary scene of writers, creators and artists on both sides.
In his speech during the meeting, Al Ameri said: “The Sharjah Book Authority believes that culture is the strongest bridge in promoting live and deep communication between the peoples and cultures of the world, and the authority is keen, under the directives and visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. This message, and achieving its impact on the ground, through this cooperation with institutions in various countries of the world».
He added: "Sharjah leads the efforts of intellectual dialogue between Arab culture and the world, and looks forward to expanding the rapprochement between the Arab and European cultures, by presenting its symbols of literature, history and thought to European culture, through a platform that is one of the oldest and most important communication events in the world." Pointing out that Sharjah, on the other hand, welcomes a greater presence of cultural institutions, publishers and creators from Italy and Europe in the various international events organized by the authority.
