Sudanese police fired tear gas canisters in Khartoum on Sunday, December 19 to disperse the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators.

They demanded civil and democratic power and opposed the army, in power since the military coup of October 25.

Sunday's protests took place on the third anniversary of the start of the revolt that led to the fall of dictator Omar al-Bashir in April 2019. The ensuing democratic transition process was halted in October with the Rebellion.
