Already in 2017, Omar Sosa and Seckou Keïta had shown that their sincere complicity could find a musical echo in their common works.
Transparent Water
had sealed a real friendship which is reflected today with force in
Suba
, an original repertoire carried by the desire to believe in a bright future.
The months of confinement, health concerns, international torpor, had only one virtue: to mobilize creative impulses and call for unity.
This spiritual rebirth is now an urgent necessity!

Forced to isolate themselves, far from each other, at the start of the pandemic, Seckou Keïta and Omar Sosa spoke by phone so as not to break the bond that unites them. The idea of once again sharing their enthusiasms and artistic brilliance became a project. One should not be weighed down by the worrying atmosphere of the moment. On the contrary, it was necessary to consider the next day. This positive obsession was the saving leap that these two sensitive souls so hoped for. Music soothes, arouses emotions, can contribute to the well-being of everyone. Our two friends are convinced of this and, throughout the production of their disc, vowed to give pleasure to future listeners. The musical poetry of their compositions takes us far from the fears of everyday life even if their purpose is by no means innocent. The challenges of our 21st century are tackled with acuity, but the kora and the piano elevate our thinking and appeal to our senses rather than our judgment.

Seckou Keïta and Omar Sosa want to laugh and transmit this good humor to the whole planet. They are not blind and deaf to the tribulations of the world, they just want to invite us to smile. They want to rediscover the beauty of the human being, his lightness, his solidarity, his humanity, his generosity. The eternal grumpies will always be quick to denounce an unproductive and useless candor, but the clairvoyance of Seckou Keïta and Omar Sosa instantly silences the ominous birds. This joyful force of conviction illuminates a path on which they hope to guide us so that our tomorrows will be more joyful and luminous. Obviously, no one knows their destiny, but seeing the first rays of the sun on the horizon is an invitation to believe in yourself, to gain confidence,to experiment and challenge oneself. Every morning at dawn, new opportunities open up to us. Seckou Keïta and Omar Sosa invite us to this trip by never failing to honor the elders and to salute their teachings.

Listening to
Suba
, you will certainly shudder hearing the echo of great personalities whose musicality called for serenity.
The jazz ornaments of Randy Weston and Bill Evans seem to be naturally reborn in the fingers of Omar Sosa, who readily admits to marrying with humility the delicate harmonies of his precious chaperones.
Seckou Keïta also carries within him the message of his ancestors and restores it with grace and virtuosity.
The weight of the cultural heritage is obvious and gives meaning to this fraternal duo whose notes sparkle and awaken us.
