An event was held in Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where we continue to interact with Palau to convey the battle of Peleliu Island in Palau, which caused many casualties in the Pacific War.

Hitachiomiya City continues to interact with Palau, such as becoming a host town at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, so that the younger generation will know about the battle of Peleliu Island in Palau, where many people from Ibaraki Prefecture were killed. Opened, and more than 60 people participated.

First, Kazuyoshi Takeda, the original author of the manga "Peleliu Paradise Gernica," which depicts the battle of Peleliu Island based on the testimonies of survivors, spoke online with six high school students.

When a high school student asked, "How did you draw the battle scene?", Mr. Takeda said, "I wanted to convey the reality of the actual battle, how life would be destroyed by the war."

After that, an online tour was held to introduce the battlefields of Peleliu Island, and a local guide showed us the caves and memorial monuments of the war dead, which were camps by the Japanese army at that time.

A woman in her thirties who participated said, "I found out that there was a sad event on such a calm island, and my chest hurt."
