Actress dies after falling from a hotel room

Japanese actress and singer Sayaka Kanda has died after she apparently fell from a hotel room in Sapporo, northern Japan, her office announced today.

Japan's Kyodo news agency reported that Kanda, 35, was found at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in an open space on the 14th floor of the 22-storey hotel where she was staying.

The police are investigating the case assuming it was a suicide, but without ruling out a criminal act.

Kanda, the daughter of actor Masaki Kanda, 70, and singer Seiko Matsuda, 59, died later after being taken to hospital.

Producers said Kanda did not show up to perform in the musical "My Fair Lady" at a Sapporo theater yesterday afternoon.

But they said she was at rehearsal on Friday.

It is noteworthy that Kanda's popularity increased significantly after the voice performance in which she dubbing the main character "Anna" in Japanese in the animated movie Frozen.

Kanda married in 2017, but divorced two years later.
