Like last year, the coronavirus epidemic is once again spoiling the end-of-year celebrations.

While the fifth wave is reaching its peak, the city of Rennes has decided to cancel the December 31 ball.

Nearly 9,000 people were expected in the Salle du Liberté to celebrate the New Year.

"This decision is all the more necessary since the Government has banned discotheques from welcoming the public until January 6, 2022 and that this ban also applies to dance activities in establishments open to the public, such as restaurants. or bars ”, justifies the city in a press release.

All the greeting ceremonies organized by the city and the metropolis during the month of January are also canceled.

The Christmas market and the fun fair maintained

Despite the calls for caution, the Municipality of Rennes nevertheless wanted to preserve a little the magic of the holidays by maintaining all the outdoor activities "which do not present any risk if sanitary measures are strictly observed".

From this Friday until January 2, the facade of the Town Hall will therefore light up with the

offered by the company Spectaculaires.

The fireworks show offered on December 31 at 11:40 p.m. on the Town Hall Square is also maintained, as will the Christmas market on the mall and the funfair on the Esplanade de Gaulle.
