The Hermitage cinema in Domont (Val-d'Oise), which previously belonged to the diocese, was recently sold to the town hall for 775,000 euros, reports
Le Parisien
.
According to some residents, the town hall could, in the long term, not maintain the activity of this room which became a cinema in 1954, and which had previously hosted sets of the Châtelet theater.
A new facility
Within three years, a new cinema, this time with three screens, should see the light of day not far from there.
The town hall would have made this choice because the construction of a new building would cost less than a renovation.
This decision thus invited several local cinephiles to mobilize, such as Jean-Luc Censier, descendant of the architect of the Hermitage, who highlighted the charm of the place.
For his part, the director of the cinema Marc Dingreville was more pragmatic, telling our colleagues that this investment of two million euros will allow the city to have a new place more suited to the current conditions of profitability.
The city has not yet indicated its intention for the old cinema.
