The Maillol Museum is hosting the retrospective of Steve McCurry's works from December 9 until next May. The 71-year-old American photographer is known to be the author of the famous "Afghan Mona Lisa", a portrait of the young Afghan girl with piercing green eyes and dressed in red, produced in 1985. This is the first exhibition of Steve McCurry's works in France.

A journey through the alleys of the Palais Maillol, through 150 photographs, from the most famous to the most recent across the four corners of the world.

The work of the American photographer questions.

Steve McCurry is aware of this.

On board a Parisian taxi, he tells us: "I think my photos raise a lot of questions", he confides.

"For example, why is this little boy holding a gun in his hand? I think there are a lot of questions about the circumstances of my photo and why they are doing this right now."

Steve McCurry is the author of the famous portrait of the young Afghan woman with piercing green eyes, Sharbat Gula, whose photo was published in the journal National Geographic.

The Parisian retrospective at the Maillol Museum also features works produced in Afghanistan, India, South-East Asia, Africa, or even Cuba, the United States and Brazil.

The American photographer, 71, has throughout his career been sent to various battlefields, from Beirut to Cambodia, from Kuwait to the former Yugoslavia.

Man has always crossed the front line, risking his life to bear witness to the conflicts in the world.

Member of the Magnum agency since 1986, he has received prestigious awards on several occasions.
