Frissons au Mont Hemlock

by Katherine Arden, published on October 21, 2021 by Éditions Pocket Jeunesse.

Her favorite quote:

Neither of them liked being alone in the dark after what had happened in October.

Strictly speaking, they weren't afraid.

But from experience, they knew that bad luck could happen.

The night.

When we were alone.

In the dark.

Why this book?

  • Because

    Frissons au Mont Hemlock

is the sequel to the brilliant

    Terror at Smoke Hollow

… and it has nothing to envy its big brother!

We reunite with our heroes Ollie, Coco and Brian for a thrilling new adventure featuring the same ingredients that made the first installment a great read: realistic characters, an effective horror vibe and a well-crafted plot!

  • Because, two months after the events of the first volume,

our trio are going on ski vacation. The children are accompanied by Ollie's father and Coco's mother, and together they discover their hotel, lost in the middle of a violent snowstorm. On site, more electricity; you have to adapt to the cold and the dark ... but when strange events occur, our heroes quickly understand that their vacation will rhyme more with the paranormal than descending snowy slopes!

  • Because Katherine Arden presents once again a

    supernatural and agonizing

    adventure

adapted for young people from 10 years old. Just like in the first book, the chills are everywhere and readers are not infantilized with a deceptively horrific plot or reflections that force open doors. Here, teenagers who like to scare themselves will be served with a hotel full of stuffed animals, manipulative characters and the ghost of a necrotic little girl who searches for her bones ...

  • Because the theme of mourning is once again put forward

with Ollie who still suffers very much from the death of his mother. However, the author also subtly addresses the notion of reconstruction after the loss of a loved one and lays the probable foundations for further reflections on the subject for the next volume ... To be continued (and I am sure young readers will also be I can't wait to discover the rest of the adventures of our trio)!

  • Because

    Frissons au Mont Hemlock

    is a pleasure to read

    from start to finish!

    The heroes are more united than ever and their friendship continues to solidify through their adventures;

more than friends, they gradually become a real family.

In short, an exciting and passionate sequel that once again shows Katherine Arden's great talent for children's literature!
