At noon on December 15, a level 3 fire broke out at the World Trade Center in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. At one time, more than 300 people were trapped on the rooftop. The fire was roughly extinguished at 4:30 pm, and 13 people were unwell and sent to hospital for treatment.

  At the press conference that evening, Wu Youshuang, the senior fire department chief of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Fire Services Department, stated that the fire was at the meter room on the 1st and 2nd floors of the shopping mall. The site was undergoing renovation work, involving wire fires, but the cause of the fire was still unclear. Under investigation.

According to reports, the Fire Department used 176 firefighters for fire fighting and rescue work, two jets and two breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze, and a total of 45 fire engines were deployed.

The fire was surrounded at 3:05 pm, came under control at 4:25 pm, and was roughly extinguished at 4:30 pm.

During the operation, firefighters evacuated 770 people to a safe place, and another 40 people evacuated themselves.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Fire Services Department ambulance supervisor Liu Kam-ki said that the Fire Department deployed 58 ambulance personnel and 24 ambulances. There were 13 injured in the accident. 10 of them felt unwell after inhaling dense smoke, and 3 suffered sprains of varying degrees. The ambulance was sent to 3 different hospitals on Hong Kong Island for treatment.
