• The Marseille-based MCES e-sports club announced on Twitter on Monday that it had suspended its collaboration with Yannick Agnel, who fulfilled the role of sports director of the structure.

  • The former swimmer was indicted for rape and sexual assault on a 13-year-old.

Several collaborations stopped after his indictment for rape and sexual assault on a 13-year-old minor. Marseille-based e-sports club MCES announced on Monday that it was in turn suspending its collaboration with former swimmer Yannick Agnel, who fulfilled the role of sports director. “Following the statements of the prosecutor of the Republic of Mulhouse today [Monday], we strongly condemn the charges against Yannick Agnel. As a result we decide to stop all collaboration with him ”, we can read on the official Twitter account of the e-sport club.

After retiring from the pools, the two-time Olympic gold medalist in London in 2012 became in 2019 the sporting director of the MCES esports team.

Within the Marseille-based club, he was in particular in charge of physical preparation, training management and nutritional monitoring of players.

Judicial review, with many prohibitions

Thursday, upon the announcement of his placement in police custody, France Info had also announced "to suspend its collaboration" with the former swimmer "until the conclusions of the investigation".

Agnel had been working on public media since May 2021 as a consultant and wrote a weekly column and a monthly podcast on video game competitions.

The former Olympic swimming champion was indicted Monday for rape and sexual assault on a 13-year-old minor.

He recognized the "materiality" of the facts while denying having exerted any "constraint" on the complainant.

The prosecutor said that a complaint had been filed last summer for facts dating back to "about 2016".

In this case, Agnel was placed under judicial supervision, accompanied by numerous prohibitions.

He is thus prohibited from leaving the inner suburbs of Paris, from going to Mulhouse, unless summoned by a court, from coming into contact with the victim's family, or with his agent Sophie Kamoun.

He will also have to hand over his passport to justice.
